Bridgewater Laser Eye Clinic

Bridgewater Laser Eye Clinic were using a competitor's software when they approached Houston Medical...

Situation:

In 2005 Bridgewater Laser Eye Clinic were using an Australian Laser Eye Surgery software package, but it was not providing the level of service and capability they required.

After investigation into alternative software, they chose to install Houston Medical VIP Ophthalmology onto a new system.

VIP's options for customisation put it well ahead of any other programs, and Houston Medical's close association with the Ophthalmology industry in both NZ and Australia - and our intimate understanding of the requirements, the expectations, and the necessary solutions.

In addition, Bridgewater Laser Eye were running older computers which were being serviced intermittently, and non-effectively by a third-party IT contractor.

Proposal:

They finalised the decision to convert to Houston VIP.NET - the latest of Houston Medical's software programs, probably the worlds most advanced Practice Management Program for Ophthalmolgy and running on a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database.

We did a full export and import of the database from the previous package. At the same time, the Houston Hardware department installed a new server system, with several additional requirements including remote access, ability to scan correspondence, automated backups, and integration with eye machines.

Implentation:

The system was installed in January 2007, and the initial setup consisted of all the patient information, appointments templates, letters and correspondence, and financial charging including to insurance companies and employers.

The hardware system went smoothly into place, and made use of the older computers as dumb terminals. Wireless was installed, as was remote access for the Ophthalmologists and admin staff.

Further on:

The decision was made not to attempt everything at once, so over the rest of 2007 we updated the clinical screens for the unique manner in which way Bridgewater Laser Eye work.

The system has matured and is working very well for all staff and the clinic as we approach 2008.
